National co-working operator WeWork announced Friday that it will open its first Houston location this fall in downtown's 708 Main building.
The New York-based office space provider will operate 86,000 square feet in the building able to accommodate more than 1,400 of the company's members.
WeWork provides workspaces and business services in spaces across 14 countries. Members include startups and freelancers, as well as small businesses and large corporations.
"WeWork is a platform for creators that provides the space, services and community to help people make a life, not just a living," Adam Wacenske, WeWork's general manager for the south, said in a statement. "With 100,000 members around the world, people from different industries and walks of life help each other's businesses thrive by sharing advice, business ideas and even services."
Amenities in the Houston location will include:
● Private offices with space for more than 120 employees
● Ping-pong table and brainstorming rooms
● Private conference rooms
● Open space for large events
"WeWork has been instrumental in changing the way people work as we're seeing not just startups, but industry-leading companies beginning to challenge the idea of traditional workspace," Central Houston president Bob Eury said in the statement.
The 708 Main building is part of the newly branded Jones on Main office property, which includes the longtime Houston banking headquarters for JPMorgan Chase at 712 Main.
"The fact that WeWork chose The Jones at Main for their first Houston location speaks volumes about our re-positioning of this iconic Houston building," Fernando Urrutia, vice president of building owner Lionstone Investments said.
