Slowpokes, the casual neighborhood coffee and wine bar in the Oak Forest/Garden Oaks neighborhood, will open a second shop in the Upper Kirby District later this year.
Slowpokes announced Monday that its partners (Juan Carlos Rubiralta of Levure Bakery and Mazen Baltagi of Chapman & Kirby and Christian's Tailgate, and Afif Baltagi) will lease 1,833 square feet at Kirby Grove, 2925 Richmond, with patio seating fronting Levy Park. The second Slowpokes is expected to open in fall 2018, almost two years after the original location's debut. It will join other tenants, including Kiran's, at the 16-story Kirby Grove office building developed by Midway.
The current menu includes coffee and tea, wine and beer, and an all-day food menu of bagels, croissants, sandwiches, salads, flatbreads and cheese boards. The Upper Kirby outpost will expand the menu to include paninis and box lunches. Slowpokes uses local purveyors such as Houston Dairymaids, Oh My! Pocket Pies, Fluff Bake Bar, Café Dolce and Kraftsman Baking.
"Midway's timing couldn't have been better for approaching us about this opportunity," Rubiralta said. "We feel fortunate to be opening in such an incredible location with an amazing vibe enhanced by the park setting."
